The Anti-Corruption Policy establishes basic standards and a framework for the prevention and detection of bribery and corruption in Laureate’s operations. It promotes compliance with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other applicable anti-corruption laws in all of the countries where Laureate operates.

Code of Conduct and Ethics For Suppliers

Laureate is committed to acting honestly and ethically. We expect the same of our suppliers.

Policy for Engaging Third Parties

Special risks arise when a third party interacts with a government agency or state-owned entity on behalf of Laureate. Of particular concern is the possibility that a third party will offer or make an improper payment or give something else of value to a government official to obtain some benefit or advantage for Laureate. The Laureate Policy for Engaging Third Parties describes processes for engaging certain third parties to minimize these risks.

Policy on Gifts, Meals, Entertainment, Sponsored Travel, and Other Business Courtesies

The Laureate Policy on Gifts, Meals, Entertainment, Sponsored Travel, and Other Business Courtesies addresses the provision to and receipt from outside parties of meals, gifts, entertainment, travel and travel-related expenses, and expenses associated with events such as conferences, seminars, college fairs, and training (collectively, “Business Courtesies”). It establishes limitations on such Courtesies, and rules for review and approval.

Charitable Contributions Policy

Laureate will, from time to time, make charitable contributions, which help support the communities in which we operate. These contributions are particularly important to us as a public benefit corporation. Unfortunately, charitable contributions also can be used as a pretext for bribes or other improper payments, or may appear that way. The Laureate Charitable Contributions Policy is intended to mitigate those risks by establishing limitations on such contributions, and rules for review and approval.

Reputational Due Diligence Policy

Laureate often enters into business relationships with individuals or organizations that present heightened risks. These include major equity investors, JV partners, and acquisition counterparties. In these cases, it is important that we gather and assess reputational information about these persons before entering into a relationship or transaction. The Laureate Reputational Due Diligence Policy sets forth the general criteria and process for securing and using such due diligence.

U.S. Policy on Government Related Business Courtesies, Political Contributions, and Lobbying

In the U.S., there is increasing public attention and regulation of private sector expenditures related to government activities. Federal, state, and local laws specifically address the provision of gifts to government officials and employees, campaign finance, and lobbying. The Laureate U.S. Policy on Government-Related Business Courtesies, Political Contributions, and Lobbying is intended to address these particular concerns in Laureate U.S. operations, and establishes certain approval requirements.

Policy on Securing Clinical Rotations and Other Student Placements

Laureate institutions provide health sciences programs that generally require students to complete certain clinical rotations prior to graduation. To secure these positions for our students, Laureate institutions often must make payments to health-care facilities. These payments may create the risk of bribery or corruption, or at least that perception. The Laureate Policy on Securing Clinical Rotations and Other Student Placements establishes rules around transparency and the avoidance of improper payments in such transactions.
